In life I was raised to believe that it was a law that there is a right way and a wrong way of doing something. An as a result of doing something the wrong way or the right way a reward is given based on what you merited, good for good and bad for evil. As my relationship with Jesus has developed I began to understand that our ways are not His ways and our thoughts are not His thoughts.
Before my relationship with Jesus, this belief or law, do good get good or do bad get bad, was etched in my conscience but at the same time it brought a lot of unanswered questions.
One of the questions was why does this law of do good get good do bad get bad only affect certain people? Are the effected people special?
If we are to be honest with ourselves we all have asked this same question in one way or another. Why does that person that cut you off on the highway receive a promotion or why does that family member that always cheats on their taxes win $1500 in a lottery scratch-off ticket. On the other hand, why the co-worker that always helps everyone in need gets lung cancer and had never smoked a cigarette a day in her life. Why does that friend who is always so sweet and honest lose her house in a random flood? The revelation that I had regarding this subject has changed my life for the better.
In the Garden of Eden Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. We all have heard or read the story. As a result, all of humanity was affected by their decision. In the garden there were two important trees, the tree of Life and the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil has produced the reality we live in today. Oh, how life would have been different if we had chosen the tree of Life!
We were created in the image and likeness of God. God created the world but we have created our own reality. God never wanted us to choose the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil because He knew the results and the effects the fruit would have on us. He allowed it to happen because He created us to be a choosing spirit, able to freely make decisions.
The Knowledge of Good and Evil was never meant to control or govern our lives but for centuries it has. We deem things good and thing evil as a result of the fruit from the tree that Adam and Eve ate from in the Garden of Eden. Thank God for Jesus!
On my journey with God, He revealed to me that after the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus we are all individually back at the beginning making that choice that was once made for us. The tree of life or the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, choose life.
The mind is a powerful part of our being. In some cases, we in our mind can see the end from the beginning just like God. The issue that we have is that we truly don’t know what end is best for us. We don’t know all the probabilities of life but God does.
With the Knowledge of Good and Evil we condemn and reward based on probabilities and possibilities but not based on facts and actualities. Good and evil discernment are based on human perception only because we as human beings can only see a part of the bigger picture. We are limited by our natural senses and we can never know every last possibility or probability.
To further explain, In Charlotte a man won a brand new Mustang convertible in a lottery drawing. Everyone was so excited for him. They told him it was a good thing that he had won that car because now he didn’t have to ride the bus. The man replied “We will see”. A couple of days later the same man was driving to work and he was hit head on by a driver of another car that wasn’t paying attention and was rushed to the hospital. Both drivers survived but had to spend several days in the hospital. The same people that were excited before about the car became angry and mad. They stated how bad this situation with him having to be in the hospital because of someone else’s neglect. The man replied “We will see”. Early the next morning the man received a phone call from a police officer. The police officer stated “Sir I apologize for calling so early but I am calling you to inform you that late last night your house caught fire and within 15 minutes the house was completely engulfed in flames. It was the worst fire we have ever seen normally fires like these people generally do not make it out alive.
The point of this story is to say without the whole picture and the leadership of the Holy Spirit we can’t successfully state what is good or evil. So stop! What appears to be evil might not be evil and what appears to be good might not be good. God never intended for us to function a part from His leadership. Jesus is the tree of Life allow Him to produce the fruit in your life that leads to success in every area.
