1 Peter 2:9 …ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people…..
Chosen is a past tense particle of the word choose; which means to select from a number of possibilities. We were chosen before the world was formed.
We are a chosen generation. God chose us we didn’t choose Him (John 15:16). At first glance you would think that God might have favorites, men and women, He loves more than others. This is not true. When you study the world of God you begin to understand the nature and character of God. There is no partiality, undue favor or unfairness; with God no one man is different from the other (Rom 2:11). God loves us all the same with His unchanging, never-ending relentless love.
How were we chosen?
For God so greatly loved and dearly prized mankind that He gave mankind His only unique Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not come to destruction or be lost but will have everlasting life (John 3:16). God chose us because He fore knew us and He loved us (Eph. 1: 4, 5). We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus before the world was formed (Eph. 2:10).
Why were we chosen?
God is the most purposeful being in existence. We all have heard or either read about the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden. The fall of mankind didn’t catch God off guard. He knew it was going to happen and from that knowledge He establish everything. The plan that He had in the Garden of Eden is that same plan He has for mankind now. God never changes His mind. He is the same yesterday, today and forever more (Heb. 13:8). God’s plan then and now is to make man in His image, after His likeness: and to allow mankind to have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth (Gen 1:26). We were chosen to rule like God on the earth. God is the King of Heaven, even the Heavens and the Earth. He is the King of kings but the Earth has He given to the children of man (Psalms 115:16).
The people chosen by God believe Jesus is their center. They have accepted Jesus as their Lord and savior. They also believe that Jesus was crucified, he died, was buried and on the third day was resurrected because of the payment due from their sins (Rom 6:23). He that knew no sin became sin that the chosen might be made the righteousness of God in Him (2 Cor. 5:21). The chosen understand and recognize that Jesus is their wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption (1 Cor. 1:30). They live, move and are having their being because of Him (Acts 17:28). Royalty, king and priest are the results of being chosen (Rev. 1:6).
Mankind was created in God’s likeness to establish and maintain the Kingdom of God on the earth. It is mankind’s purpose for existing. God didn’t want robots; so He gave mankind the ability to choose to accept this calling on their life. Many are called but only a few are chosen (Matt 22:14). The few are chosen not because God didn’t want them all but because only a few accepted the call. The only difference between the called and the chosen is that the chosen accepted God’s design for their life.
Have you accepted the design of God for your life?
